Reprieve

so many times
I catch myself
seeking a reprieve
from the everyday stress
of needing to impress
and strive for
instant success
instead of
deep fulfillment

pardon me
but I miss those times
where I could just be
me
nothing fancy
no hype or
artificialisation

just me
someone who likes to
find simple connections
between the heart
and the mind
enjoying
the way writing
scatters hopes
dreams and fantasies
into the wind
not caring whether they are
mundane or thrilling
they just are
what they are
at the time

when I wake up
each day
that is what I’ll
strive to be:
me

and I know that will be
easier said than done
